Travel Journaling

Journaling on the road is something I look forward to on vacation. I don't give myself the opportunity to do it much at home because I stay so busy with life.

A few things I brought this time that I am loving! I bought a pentel brush pen before I left and it is a perfect tool for travel (unless it leaks!!). I see that they have metallic ones too. I am going to have to order a gold and silver one.

I also bought some Caran D'ache Aquarelle, they are a little on the expensive side and I won't let the kids use them! I bought the kids watersoluable oil pastels that will give a similar effect. The caran d'ache pastels have a beautiful quality of color and are perfect for travel. I am using them for my backgrounds in my sketchbook. Color in your backgrounds and dip your brush in water and they give the effect of water color.I have a couple of white sharpies and of course lots of glue sticks!

For sending prayers and comments to the post below..Tawny and Bo have been blessed by the well wishes. Looks like their baby is making good progress and is a real trooper..keep sending prayers.

We are happily enjoying our spring break. Yesterday was our first day of vacation and we stayed busy eating coconuts, snorkeling and surfing...

We ended our day enjoying a meal and goofing around with the kids and our friends that joined us..I think this photo although not a perfect portrait shows the "joy" and "fun" we are having... just "being" together, brought our art supplies and look forward to some family journal time....Hope to blog more from the road.

Thankful in Baja

Thankful for a non-traditional Thanksgiving...

This year was the first year in my life that I have not had turkey on Thanksgiving, instead our meal was fresh lobster. A group of fourteen of my family members have taken an adventure to a beautiful spot in Mexico for some R&R.

We are thankful for wetsuits. The water is COLD!

Thankful for all the tidepools and all the photo's I was able to take. They will be very useful for a new collection of designs coming out this spring...

Thankful for kids swimming, surfing, exploring tidepools, playing volleyball and being so worn out that they just fall into bed!

Thankful for time together away...

Traditions...

are so important. We don't get too into a "spooky" Halloween but we certainly have fun with our few creative little traditions. Have a happy day! xo-Christine

Here you go

my sweet husband. This is for you...I love that you love "us" so much, even after being married to me for 16 years (and being with me for 21 years). I think it is so sweet that you have asked me several times to post our skating picture on my blog..so here you go my love...here we are.

It always surprises me when my family or friends read my blog. My brother told me the other day that I had  a lot of "cat" posts..I thought that was funny because I have been restraining myself in that area. It seems like all of the photo's on our camera are now of the kitten. I have become "a pet person"....my extended family is truly shocked. I will soon get back to my posts about what is happening in the studio, I promise. This week I am working on a class. I rarely teach (maybe once a year) but I decide to do a local class and I will post detail on the blog soon. There is a lot of product design going on in the studio and of course tons of "cathedral building" as well. Thanks for all the nice comments on that last post. What a blessing to hear that other people needed that encouragement too and that it came at just the right time for some. There is only one way to explain that and it is truly supernatural, not a coincidence at all, don't you think?

Cat napping....

This is a snapshot from today, I had to run and get the camera when I saw this. Chloe is the most well cared for kitten. She fell asleep with her favorite purple poodle stuffed animal and the girls tucked her in. I don't know what she will do when the kids go back to school next week...
Chloe's brother has a new home too. Marah Johnson's family adopted Chloe's brother Duke. I guess that makes us sort of relatives or in-laws or something...:).

We have a name.....

for our new feline family member. Her name is CHLOE. Totally suits her. We were leaning towards Zoe and when Chloe was suggested, it just clicked. Thank you for all the name suggestions.  Barb if you are out there please email me.

I think she looks like a Chloe to me.  Kind of like Kohl, but....not quite.  :)

We are a cat family and I wouldn't trade them for the world. They are so independent, yet, enjoy receiving your love too. A great mix for busy people.

Have a good cat box, always cleaned out and accesible to her. Feed a good, high quality kitten food, such as a Science Diet or equally good food, and be sure her little paws never touch the ground so she knows that she is princess of the house! LOL The last thing I think your kiddos will take care of. :)

for all the advice and name suggestions. We are still thinking about names and getting to know her personality before we decide on one. I love all of the names suggested and my girls and I are reading all of your advice. Keep it coming!

The kitten has adapted pretty well. I was worried because it didn't eat or use the litter box yesterday or overnight. This morning she felt comfortable with us and decided to go ahead and eat and use the box. We were all relieved. She is purring, napping and playing. It is really cool to see my girls be such mother hens to their kitten. I think she will be well loved here.

Baja Surf Trip

I have been away most of the week, enjoying the sun and surf in Baja, Mexico. Surfing is a huge part of the California lifestyle and sad to say I don't take advantage of getting out in the water with my family enough. We found a desolate beach and everyone got into the water and surfed. It was so much fun being together all by ourselves in the water. I can't wait to put the photo's I took on my Surfing paper.

The seafood in Mexico is always amazing and we managed to go out twice for lobster, yum!

There were beautiful tide pool to enjoy in the evening too....

Another exciting bit of news in our house is that we are getting a pet! My kids have been asking for a dog or cat for YEARS! My husband and I are so practical and have always thought that another life form to take care of would be too much for us. I have never been an animal person, I was just always afraid of them. I know that sounds weird, it is not that I don't like them they just scare me all those claws and teeth. I am going to get over my fear and take the big step. We are getting a kitten, a cute little kitten. She is coming to live with us this weekend and I am freaked out and excited all at the same time. My kids are beside themselves in excitement because they have waited so long for this. We need a name for this little girl kitten. I like the name Kohl, but none of us is set on it.Any ideas? this is a picture of her below. If you give me a name and we decide to use it, I will send you some scrapbook stuff. Give us some ideas, please! She is coming home on Sunday so we have a few days to think of some options. Can't wait to hear suggestions and any advice about kittens would be graciously accepted since I don't know the first thing about them...

Dreaming of vacation....

It is always at my most busy time that I get distracted thinking about vacation.....escape, something to look forward to.

This page is from our family travel journal that we did on our Hawaii trip last year. I posted a photo album on the side bar. It just makes me happy and I wanted to share it with you. Do you have any special ways of documenting your vacations? I love to keep all the everyday things like receipts, brochures and notes together and add paint and drawing to it....
